Excavator Operator

About the Role

Operate heavy machinery to excavate, move, and load earth, rock, and rubble on construction or mining sites. Key responsibilities include performing daily equipment checks, performing routine maintenance, and operating the excavator's controls to dig and move materials according to site plans and verbal instructions. A driver must also adhere to strict safety regulations, work collaboratively with a team, and ensure equipment is clean and properly maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy machinery like excavators to dig, grade, and move earth, rock, and debris.
  • Fit and remove various attachments, such as buckets, blades, and rock breakers.
  • Load materials onto trucks and dump trucks.
  • Coordinate with other site personnel, such as truck drivers and engineers, to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Read and interpret plans, drawings, and markers to ensure precise excavation.
  • Perform pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication.
  • Monitor the machine's operation and adjust controls to ensure optimal pressure, speed, and flow.
  • Ensure the safety of other workers and adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current necessary operators license.
  • Minumum 5 years experience.
  • Trade Certificate or Diploma or equivalent apprenticeship or associate Degree is desirable.
  • Prior experience in given role and construction industry is highly valued.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Good communication skills for coordinating with others on site.
  • Mechanical aptitude for performing minor repairs and maintenance.

Physical health is paramount for this role, as you will often be required to work in demanding environments and schedules.
