About the Role

builds and repairs structures like walls, arches, and chimneys using bricks, blocks, and mortar, while following blueprints and plans. Key responsibilities include preparing mortar, ensuring proper alignment and levelness, and cleaning up the work area. Bricklayers work on a variety of projects, from new housing to large commercial developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lay bricks, blocks, and stones in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, arches, and other structures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements and ensure precise construction.
  • Repair and modify existing mental structures and products.
  • Position bricks accurately, ensuring they are level and aligned using tools like a gauge line.
  • Remove excess mortar with a trowel and fill in small spaces between bricks.
  • Refurbish existing masonry and brickwork on restoration projects.
  • Skilled in using tools like trowels, spirit levels, and plumb bobs.
  • Understanding of different construction methods and materials.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Trade Certificate or Diploma or equivalent apprenticeship or associate Degree is desirable.
  • Prior experience in given role and construction industry is highly valued.

Hard and technical skills

  • Read and interpret blue prints, technical drawings and schematics.
  • Operate and maintain various fabrication machinery such as plasma cutters, grinders and other hand and power tools.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe, and maintain tools and equipment.

Physical health is paramount for this role, as bricklayers often work in demanding environments.
